The Canadian government will authorize hundreds of thousands of seals to be killed this year as part of its annual commercial hunt. Ninety-five percent of these pups are between two weeks and three months old. They are shot or clubbed and then skinned for their pelts.

Canadian officials justify the hunt by saying that the seals are responsible for declining fish populations. But the real reason for the fish shortage is poor management and massive overfishing. Seal populations are also falling fast with more than half a million decrease over the last few years.

Help put an end to the seal hunt once and for all by contacting Canada’s Prime Minister today!

Seriously. I mean, the almost 10,000 nuclear warheads we already have aren’t anywhere near enough (for what, I’m not sure). So what if experts say these warheads will be reliable for at least another half a century. We need……more nukes, more nukes, more nukes!

Sorry, I guess I’m just feeling sarcastic today. When I read that the Bush administration wants to spend billions of dollars (that would be money they take from your paycheck and mine) on developing new nuclear weapons I felt like I should either laugh or cry. I chose to laugh. And to do something about it. You can too by urging your senators and representative to reject funding for this horribly misguided plan. The life you save just might be everyone on Earth’s.
