If only there was something we could do as a country that would create good jobs, save you and me some money, help the environment, and make our country safer. Oh wait – there is! It’s called the Federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (they really need to come up with sexier names for these things) and it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
There is a bill expected in the Senate that would require utilities to have 15 percent of their electricity come from clean, renewable energy sources by 2020. I’ll call it the “Creating Good Jobs, Saving You Money, Allowing You to Breath Easier, and Be Safer” bill.
You can urge your senators to support this bill when it comes up right from here.

UPDATE: VICTORY! The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has proposed listing them as a rare species under the Endangered Species Act!
The Cook Inlet once teemed with up to 1300 beluga whales — a genetically distinct population of these white whales. But sadly, their numbers have dropped to around 300 — and they could vanish forever within our lifetime unless we act now!
Federal officials will decide soon whether to list the Cook Inlet belugas as an endangered species. But they need to hear from you!
Urge the National Marine Fisheries Service to list Cook Inlet belugas as “endangered” and protect these creatures for future generations. A decision could come at any time — so please take action today!

Get this, 1/3 of all US global warming pollution comes from vehicles (that’s a lot). And under the Clean Air Act, states have the ability to go beyond federal vehicle pollution standards and adopt stronger standards of their own. So far 11 states have adopted the cleaner car standards first instituted by California, and a growing number of states are considering them as well (woo-hoo!).
So how are the car companies responding? By suing those states! Because democracy is over rated and “the people” shouldn’t actually be able to make decisions that effect car manufacturers (how dare we!). Leading this democracy-dampening suefest is the Auto Alliance, the legal and lobbying arm for most of the major automakers.
Please contact the new president of the Auto Alliance, Dave McCurdy, and tell him that we want global warming solutions, not more spin and lawsuits from carmakers.
