In our previous post, we talked about the different bins for recycling and what they represent. We also touched on the benefits of recycling. But first things first – is recycling the only thing you can do?
It’s a Process
That’s the numero uno thing to keep in mind here. It’s not something you just do in one step and voila, you have a recycled product in your hands! More importantly, it’s a commercialized or industrialized process – it’s not really something you can do effectively from your home.
With recycling, segregating waste, patronizing recycled products, and encouraging other people to do the same will be your main contribution. But it’s not the only way you can help save the environment with proper waste management.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
These three components make up the waste hierarchy strategies or methods of waste management. In Europe, however, the waste hierarchy includes two additional and less beneficial components: recovery and disposal.
Reduce – This is the topmost strategy for waste management and disposal. It’s the best strategy not just for the Earth but for consumers and even businesses as well. Reduced consumption can also be considered synonymous to efficient or smart consumption.
