Climate Change and Global Warming and How You Can Help
Climate change and global warming are two major effects of prolonged human misuse and mistreatment of the environment.
Climate change refers to any permanent or long-term change in a region’s typical climate. Although climate change is natural, rapid increase or decrease of temperature can have disastrous effects on the environment and its inhabitants, including humans.
Global warming refers to the rise of the Earth’s temperature, which could lead to climate change as well. It is believed that global warming is mostly caused by human activities. If global warming is allowed to continue, the consequences could be fatal to all living things.
Get Involved
It’s time to stop being passive. Be more proactive and get involved with any of the programs that have been launched by local, regional, or national groups and organizations to promote environmental protection and reduce the effects of global warming.
Find out the policies in effect in your area. Are they being implemented properly and consistently? Report any incidents involving violations of these policies. If elections are approaching, research about the environmental platform of candidates and vote for those with the power and initiative to create a greener community for all of you.
Research
Take advantage of the resources available to you to stay updated about the new and varied ways in which you can contribute to the preservation of the environment. Climate change and global warming can be prevented but everyone has to pitch in and help each other in restoring the world to its original condition.
Use Non-Energy Consuming Methods
Instead of using heaters or air-conditioning, why don’t you opt for natural methods to modify your internal temperatures? During winter, bundle up in additional layers of clothing and blankets. Consider bunking with the rest of your family as well; this would further reduce household consumption of electricity and be a good way to spend quality to spend quality time with each other. As for the months of summer, open windows at home to let outside winds come in. They can be just as cool as air-conditioning.
Buy Locally and Organically Produced Foods
Think of this as killing two birds with one stone. Prioritize homegrown products rather than imported foods. Increased import sales would only encourage companies to spend more on international distribution, which would mean greater fuel consumption and, consequently, greater carbon emissions as well. Besides looking for local manufacturers, look also for organic farms as they use completely environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. As a result, their produce are the safest to consume and taste better as well!
