Definition for Global Warming
Here’s a simple global warming definition: a phenomenon that is largely caused by the emission of greenhouse gases through various human activities and consequently leads to unwanted changes in the climate. If allowed to continue, global warming can have a disastrous effect on the world.
What is Happening Today?
It’s not enough, however, to simply have a global warming definition. You need to know what effects the world has already suffered and is still suffering due to global warming in order to understand the critical need for change.
More and Greater Heat Waves
The 2003 heat wave in Europe alone had led to the loss of approximately 35,000 lives and this is mirrored all over the world. There are more heat waves that are occurring and they’ve become increasingly intense as they come.
Heat wave doesn’t just mean having to wear sun block and ensuring that your products come with UV protection. Old people and those who are hypertensive are immediately at greater risk of having a heart attack or any other unwanted side effect when they are exposed to unnaturally high temperatures.
Agricultural Dilemma
Heat is normally desirable as there are nutrients from sunlight that crops and plants need in order to grow. But too much and prolonged exposure to heat is bad, especially in tropical regions, and can cause crops to die.
Farms that are unable to produce harvests can lead to increased employment rates in rural regions. It can also lead to famine if left unchecked.
Rapid Climate Change
Global warming has caused the world’s climate to become increasingly unstable. If things continue as they are, it would be virtually impossible to predict what kind of climate the world would have 25 years from now, much less a century after. Climates could bury cities underwater or turn them into wastelands and deserts.
More Cars, More Pollution
With so many famous personalities from various industries urging people to save the environment, you would think that attitudes would have started changing. At the very least, companies would try to become more energy-efficient and manufacture environmentally friendly products. But no, warnings about global warming continue to be ignored.
Sixteen million cars are on the road each year and this number is simply expected to increase as time passes. This is not good news for the environment when you consider the fact that fuel-powered vehicles are one of the primary sources of carbon emissions.
