Human Impact on the Environment
Human impact on the environment should not be underestimated. Humans had long the power to destroy the environment. Thankfully, it has the skills and gifts as well for protecting and nurturing the environment. Of course, whether or not there is enough time to undue decades of abuse and misuse is another matter.
Pollution Caused by Human Activities
The state of the world’s natural environment is a far cry from what it was before. Industrialization and urbanization have benefited the human population in numerous ways but it has also a negative impact on the world’s natural resources.
Deforestation activities continue in alarming rates all over the world. The Amazon rainforests in Brazil are much smaller than they used to be due to nonstop deforestation and illegal logging. Trees and forests in general serve as buffer during heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hurricanes. Adequately forested areas prevent floods from reaching inhabited areas or coastal communities. But without these forests then these areas are immediately vulnerable to floods and the kind of havoc it can wreak.
Cars are one of the greatest inventions throughout time, but it is also one of the major sources of headaches of environmental protection agencies. Carbon emissions from automobiles are one of the most prominent sources of air pollution. Admittedly, there has been significant improvement in the design of today’s cars. Fuel is consumed at a more efficient rate and automobile companies are doing their best to produce cars that can completely rely on more environmentally friendly energies such as electricity and water.
Small Changes for a Greener World
Majority of the world’s environmental problems had been caused by human activities and may be solved in time with human activities as well.
Awareness Campaigns
Everyone must do their bit in sharing the knowledge they possess about environmental protection. Organizing seminars and workshops that educate children and adults alike about the critical state of the environment and the various ways they can contribute is a start. Campaigning for educational reforms to increase the focus on environmental studies should also be advocated.
But doing everything in a community scale is not necessary at all times. You can also start right from your home and with your own family.
Lifestyle Changes
Words are cheap as they say so another way of preserving the environment is by making the very changes you are advocating. Support organically grown food, recycle biodegradable products, and reduce waste. There are so many things you can do right now and in truth, there’s no time to waste.
