Earth Day Events

Although April 22 of 2010 has come and gone, there are still a number of Earth Day events that are ongoing and which you could participate in. When it comes to protecting and preserving the environment, no person willing to contribute will be turned down.

Seminars and Workshops

Check the announcement sections in your school, office, and local community hall for seminars and workshops that have environmental themes. Some of them may not be associated with Earth Day itself but that is immaterial. What matters is that you’ve taken the chance to learn new knowledge about the environment and empower yourself to be a better steward of the Earth.

Campaign Drives

Various kinds of drives are established to promote Earth Day or raise funds for the organization and any of its affiliates. Schools are institutions that are most involved with these types of events. Newspaper drives are one of the most popular activities. Participants are required to collect newspapers for recycling. This promotes recycling and reuse of biodegradable products and funds resulting from such activities may be donated to non-profit environmental organizations or to launch similar events.

Art Programs

Another way you can contribute and celebrate Earth Day is to support the many artists that it has sponsored or recognized for their efforts in involving essential environmental themes in their works. They could be artists, sculptors, actors, and writers.

Exhibits, trade shows, and museums that feature works with environmental themes or those that use sustainable products or processes for creating works of art must also be supported. By being a patron to such causes, you are already setting an example for your peers and encouraging them to place greater importance on the needs of the environment.

Start Your Own Earth Day Event

Contrary to popular belief, Earth Day events don’t have to be huge and launched at a national level. You can start your own event in your local neighborhood. What’s important is doing what you can to improve the knowledge of people around you about the current state of the environment and what can be done to protect it.

Events may be organized to raise funds that you could donate to non-profit and civic groups devoted to conserving natural and wildlife organisms and habitats.

You could also get involved with the educational board in your community to promote the integration of environmental education programs in school curricula.

April 22 may be the official date of Earth Day but don’t let that stop you from making any other day of the year as a continued celebration for this wonderful occasion.
