Common Air Pollution Causes
Majority of air pollution causes are preventable if only people are aware of the consequences of their actions and do something positive about them.
Car Pollution
Vehicles or automobiles – whether used for private or commercial transportation or for racing purposes – will always be a major source of pollution as long as they are powered by fuel or use combustion engines. Such engines release carbon monoxide and gaseous and nitrous oxide, all of which are harmful substances that contribute to global warming. They weaken the ozone layers protecting the Earth from UV rays, reduce air visibility to a point that air traffic is affected and create smog.
Fossil Fuel Consumption
Factories are not the only ones that burn coal and oil or fossil fuels. There are also office buildings and even homes that require fossil fuel consumption in order to generate power. The noxious gases this process emits have the power to destroy plants and cause structural damages to buildings.
Petroleum Refineries
Hydrocarbons and other toxic substances are offshoot products when petroleum undergoes a refining process. And given the amount of petroleum demand, these refineries are one of the more potent air pollution causes.
Inefficient Power Line Systems
There are still places in the world where in power lines are high voltage due to insufficient insulation. This is more common in Second and Third World countries and also contributes to global warming. This kind of problem, however, requires resolutions from the government. Proper infrastructure must be used in order to prevent this kind of problem from happening.
Pesticides
Pesticides are often used at home to kill insects and other pests. Commercial grade pesticides, on the other hand, are used to destroy weeds and unwanted elements in farms and to improve maintenance of commercial establishments.
Chemical pesticides may be effective in killing pests but they can also affect the health of individuals who are exposed to them. They contain substances that often have a negative effect on the human respiratory system and the very same substances have an equally damaging effect on the environment.
Vegetables, fruits, and other plants that have been produced, grown or harvested using chemical or non-organic means will also contain lower content of nutrients. Depending on the severity and frequency of exposure to toxic chemicals, such produce may even have a detrimental effect on consumers.
Fertilizers
Non-organic fertilizers virtually have the same effect that chemical pesticides have on plants. farming individuals, communities, and companies must be made to realize the numerous disadvantages to using chemical fertilizers as this would improve not only the quality of their produce but the air everyone breathes in as well.
