What Type of Pollution Should You Be Most Worried about?

In truth, people cannot be worried about a single type of pollution alone. Air, water, and land are all essential parts of the environment and their respective degradation has a tremendous impact on the world’s future.

Understanding the Different Types of Pollution

There are three major types of pollution: air, water, and land. By understanding the various causes of pollution, you’ll be in a better position to determine what course of action you can take to restore the balance and restore the ideal state for the world’s ecosystems.

Air Pollution

Air pollution takes place when harmful substances in the atmosphere reach unnecessarily levels and lead to climate changes and produce undesirable effects on ecosystems and even human health. There are six primary types of air pollutants and these are sulfur dioxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides, photochemical oxidants, hydrocarbons, and particulates.

Noise pollution is one of the most underestimated forms of air pollution. it may not have a significantly detrimental effect on the climate, but it can affect the existence of animals and even humans.

One of the more common forms of air pollution is tobacco and cigarette smoking. Its noxious fumes have a severely harmful effect on its users but, more importantly, its effects are even worse for secondhand smokers.

All vehicles and machineries that are powered by combustion engines produce carbon emissions and its accumulated total is responsible for 60% of the world’s overall air pollution levels.

Water Pollution

Any material, whether biological, physical, or chemical, that has the ability to lower the quality of water is considered as a source of water pollution. There are two types of water pollution sources: point and non-point. The exact origin of contaminants can be determined with point source water pollution and vice versa.

Industrial factories and plants are one of the most common sources of water pollution. The various activities and operations these plants are involved in often release harmful substances such as oils, poisons, alkalis, and acids, into the water. When water contains excessive levels of any of these pollutants, it is no longer potable for humans to drink and may also become uninhabitable for aquatic organisms.

Land Pollution

Besides litter and improperly disposed waste, land pollution also takes place when soil is misused and abused. Problems with land pollution, however, are the easiest to address due to its accessibility. With proper awareness programs, people may learn to value land more and give it the kind of care and treatment it deserves.
